History of LETMESAIL
LETMESAIL was founded in 2005 by Gary Spindt, a father of an adult daughter with intellectual disabilities, who after finishing school at the age of 22, became withdrawn, insecure, lonely, and bored. Realizing a lack of meaningful social and recreational opportunities for individuals with disabilities residing in their North Los Angeles community of Santa Clarita, Gary united with other parents to form LETMESAIL.
For the first two years, this grassroots organization was entirely led by a dedicated and talented Board of Directors that was highly successful in overseeing a cadre of supportive volunteers. These volunteers were effectively utilized in event planning and coordination, publicity, outreach, teaching classes, collaborating with other organizations, chaperoning activities, and fundraising. With the endorsement of the City of Santa Clarita Parks and Recreation Department, LETMESAIL established a Lifestyle Enrichment Center in 2006. This well equipped facility features tables, chairs, couches, a TV/DVD player, ping pong and foosball tables, a karaoke machine, music CD’s and videos, kitchen appliances and food service supplies, and storage cabinets well-stocked with puzzles, arts and craft supplies, and numerous board games.
In January of 2007, LETMESAIL hired it’s first employee, part time Program Director, Kristel Shvetsov.
LETMESAIL has experienced phenomenal growth and success quad-tripling in size during its first years of operation. There are now over 180, predominately low-income individuals, with special needs who regularly participate in programming.
On January 1, 2008, Gary Spindt became the full time CEO/Executive Director. In 2008, LETMESAIL will be seeking to relocate the Lifestyle Enrichment Center to a larger, handicap accessible facility. Partnerships with other non-profit organizations are being sought to share the new facility and thus enable all the quality programs and services to continue.
