The goals of LETMESAIL are to promote the physical, mental, and social well-being of individuals with disabilities by helping them build their self-esteem, develop skills, and improve their social functioning. These benefits have the potential to help clients gain employment readiness opportunities, optimum independence, successful integration in the community, and an overall improvement in their health and the quality of life.
SERVICES
LETMESAIL services are offered regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex or handicapping condition. The following services are provided for clients aged 16 and older:
Lifestyle Enrichment Evening Activities: LETMESAIL currently offers a wide variety of weekly evening activities for individuals who are “differently-abled”. Special events held on-site at the Lifestyle Enrichment Center include themed Bingo Nights, Bunko Nights, American Idol Night, a Remo Drum Therapy Session, Fear Factor Night, Dancing With the Stars Night (dancing lessons included), Hang Loose Nights, Card and Board Game Competitions, Arts and Crafts Nights, etc. A Therapeutic Art Program began in January of 2007.
.
Community Based Excursions: LETMESAIL hosts monthly outings to sporting events, such as Dodger Games, LA Avengers Games, college basketball games, and trips to WWF Wrestling.  In an effort to provide cultural, art, and music enrichment activities, clients have attended a holiday presentation at the Canyon Theatre Guild, a summer Santa Clarita Concert in the Park, and a live stage performance at the College of the Canyons.

Independent Living Skills: In response to the alarming obesity epidemic that is threatening the health and wellness of many of our clients, we also now offer free monthly Tae Bo Exercise Classes, nutrition education, and cooking classes. Future classes will cover topics such as home management, health and safety, grooming and hygiene, social skills, and self-advocacy.
Parent Education and Support Groups: In addition to programs and services for clients, LETMESAIL also offers educational seminars to parents and caregivers on topics pertinent to parenting special needs children and adults. Classes are held in our Lifestyle Enrichment Center and volunteers provide free on-site supervision and activities for clients, while their parents and caregivers attend these informational sessions. Topics have included: the importance of special needs trusts and financial planning, conservatorship, health care directives, alternative behavioral therapies for individuals with disabilities, nutrition and wellness education and parent advocacy awareness classes. Many parents have formed support groups and developed reciprocal respite care arrangements for their loved ones with disabilities.

Advocacy: Parents are grateful for resource and referral information provided by LETMESAIL, which include networking information on adult day programs, independent living opportunities, additional health, wellness, and recreational opportunities, etc.

PARTNERSHIP WITH ADULT DAY PROGRAMS:  LETMESAIL now partners with APAC, All People Accessing the Community, which is a community based Day Program for adults with disabilities. The LETMESAIL Lifestyle Enrichment Center is used on periodic weekday mornings to host classes focusing on health education, art, social skills and independent living skills. Additionally, clients receive practical experience developing their job training skills through volunteer work for other non-profit organizations. (ie: packaging marketing materials, stuffing envelopes and other clerical work.) LETMESAIL is currently pursuing paid employment opportunities as well.

FAMILY ACTIVITIES:  In addition to seasonal activities such as pot-luck barbecues, pool parties, and holiday celebrations, LETMESAIL sponsors affordable activities for families who have a loved one with a disability, usually at a discounted group price. Free and reduced price admissions have been secured for activities such as the Rose Parade, Cirque de Soleil, and Disneyland. Parents often feel more confident and secure attending activities with other parents of loved ones with disabilities who accept and understand the unique challenges of their family functioning.

PEER AND VOLUNTEER INTEGRATION:  LETMESAIL has recruited and trained numerous peers and volunteers who regularly chaperone our activities and serve as mentors, role models, and friends to our clients. Participants include students from local high schools, colleges, and church groups and range in age from teenagers to senior citizens. These integrated social activities provide inclusive socialization for our clients as well as helping volunteers learn about the capabilities of those who are differently-abled.
